It’s a little tricky since the tunnel is narrow and there are multiple fire doors. The room is spacious and comfortable. Quiet, also in the red British style, the hotel’s main advantage is that it is just a ten-minute walk to my favorite British Museum. Going straight at the crossroads is a pleasant surprise.

Beautiful rooms and suites, some with terraces and many with beautiful views, a rooftop pool, a famous bar, a relaxing luxury spa, and exquisite dining, are available at this stunning Grand Dame across Hyde Park.

The show-stopping entryway designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners is a genuinely contemporary addition to this turn-of-the-century home (think glass and steel cables). And the interiors, although exquisite and traditional, have a modern touch. Rooms and hallways pack with marble and wood.

The Wellesley is a stunning venue, obviously influenced by the Jazz Age, but with a sleek modern veneer — a relevant style, particularly given the recent Gatsby revivals — and unique, too, among a sea of more typical luxury stores.
