Huddersfield Giants have confirmed they will leave the Accu Stadium at the end of the 2026 season, with the club preparing to reveal its preferred home venue for 2027 during next month’s Super League fixture against Catalans Dragons.
The announcement represents the clearest development yet in the Huddersfield Giants smaller stadium relocation story. However, the club has not confirmed that its unnamed 2027 ground will be the permanent, smaller stadium it ultimately wants to develop.
In an official statement published on 22 July, the Giants said several locations had been considered for the 2027 campaign and that a favourite appeared to have been agreed. The selected venue will be announced at the Accu Stadium on Saturday 8 August, when Huddersfield face Catalans Dragons at 2pm.
Admission to the match will be free, with supporters required to register and obtain a digital ticket in advance.

The Giants have confirmed three central points: the club will leave the Accu Stadium after the current season, a preferred 2027 location has emerged, and its identity will be revealed at the Catalans fixture.
Club owner Ken Davy said the search for a new base had placed the organisation under pressure, adding: “I am now relaxed and very confident that next season will be very special indeed.”
Executive chairman Ralph Rimmer said the club had held extensive discussions with the local authority but had exhausted the options for an easily developable stadium site within Huddersfield’s boundaries in the required timeframe. He maintained that the longer-term objective remained a successful Super League club playing before strong crowds in a venue of its own.
The statement does not name the preferred 2027 ground, confirm its capacity or specify how long the Giants expect to play there.
Why Are the Giants Leaving the Accu Stadium?
The Giants have played at the Huddersfield venue since it opened in 1994, sharing the ground with Huddersfield Town.
Chairman Ken Davy formally stated in the club’s September 2025 stadium decision that the 2026 Super League season would be Huddersfield’s last at the Accu Stadium. He said the Giants would establish a new home base in 2027 while continuing their search for a permanent stadium.
Later that month, Huddersfield Town took full operational control of the stadium under an agreement involving the football club, the Giants and Kirklees Council. Huddersfield Town became the stadium company’s sole shareholder, while the council retained the freehold and granted the football club a long-term lease.
The Giants’ leadership has also argued that the approximately 24,500-capacity ground is larger than the rugby league club requires. Davy previously discussed plans for a purpose-built stadium with an initial capacity of around 7,500 to 8,000, saying a more appropriately sized home could improve the atmosphere and give the organisation a clearer identity.
Is a Smaller Permanent Stadium Confirmed?
A permanent smaller stadium has not yet received public confirmation from the club.
A SunSport report published on 21 July claimed that an area capable of accommodating an 8,000-to-10,000-seat venue had been identified on the fringes of Huddersfield. It also suggested the club hoped to occupy the proposed stadium by 2030. Those details were attributed to unnamed sources and have not been confirmed in the Giants’ latest announcement.
The distinction is important: the ground selected for 2027 may be an interim home, while the proposed purpose-built stadium remains a separate, longer-term project.
Dewsbury’s Flair Stadium has been discussed as one possible temporary option after hosting Huddersfield fixtures, while Halifax has also featured in previous relocation plans. Neither location has been officially confirmed as the club’s 2027 home.
Supporters should receive definitive information on 8 August. The announcement will need to clarify the venue, capacity, length of the agreement, transport arrangements, accessibility, season-ticket implications and whether the move forms part of a wider route towards a permanent Giants stadium.
