Fears of an England vs Argentina delay have been addressed by stadium officials ahead of the teams’ World Cup semi-final in Atlanta.
The high-profile match is scheduled to kick off at 8pm BST on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, equivalent to 3pm local time at Atlanta Stadium. Thunderstorms are forecast around the city during the afternoon, raising concerns that severe weather could disrupt the fixture.
However, stadium representatives have said the game is expected to begin at the planned time regardless of the conditions outside. The venue, also known as Mercedes-Benz Stadium, has a fully retractable roof that will remain closed during the match.
Will England vs Argentina Be Delayed?
There is currently no confirmed England vs Argentina delay. Stadium officials have stated that the semi-final will start as scheduled, even if thunderstorms develop near Atlanta.
The enclosed stadium is climate-controlled and air-conditioned, meaning rain, lightning and high temperatures should not directly affect play once both teams are inside. Temperatures outside are expected to reach approximately 29°C, although high humidity could make conditions feel considerably warmer.
Weather could still affect travel around the city. Severe lightning or flooding may delay team coaches, supporters or stadium staff travelling to the venue, although no such disruption has been announced.
Previous England Match Was Delayed by Storms
Concern has increased because England’s last-16 victory over Mexico was delayed by approximately one hour due to stormy conditions in Mexico City.
Other World Cup fixtures have also been affected by dangerous weather. France’s group match against Iraq was reportedly pushed back by two hours following storms in Philadelphia.
Atlanta Stadium offers far greater protection because its roof can fully enclose the playing area. Officials therefore believe the England versus Argentina semi-final can proceed without a weather-related interruption.
